Two Italian men who were cruising along the Gżira Strand in their Alfa Romeo were held at gunpoint by two armed and hooded robbers yesterday when they stopped in front of jewellery shop.
The thieves made off with a considerable amount of jewellery from the Italians and escaped the scene in their Alfa at 11.30 a.m., the police said.
The car was later found in Madonna tal-Ġebla Street, Gżira along with a Mitsubishi, which had been reported stolen to the police sometime earlier. Both vehicles were used for the getaway.
Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna was informed of the case and appointed experts to assist in his inquiry. The police are investigating.
