Ivan Falzon approached to take over as Labour Party CEO
Ivan Falzon may take over from Leonid McKay, who was announced as the new Transport Malta CEO on Tuesday
Ivan Falzon has been approached to take over as Labour Party CEO, succeeding Leonid McKay, who is moving to Transport Malta.
Falzon, currently Gozo Regional Development Authority CEO, previously served as CEO of Mater Dei Hospital, the Water Services Corporation and Infrastructure Malta.
“He is a very competent person; wherever he has been, he has produced results,” a Labour Party source told Times of Malta, although he said a final decision has not been taken yet.
“Leonid has a certain stature. Ivan has a similar oomph to replace him”.
Besides serving in a number of senior roles under the Labour government, Falzon has advised the Labour party on electoral strategy.
Questions have been sent to Falzon.
The CEO position is one of only a handful of full-time roles within the Labour Party. The party’s president, deputy leaders and other senior positions in the party are on a voluntary basis.
Unlike the other senior roles, which are elected from within the party’s organs, the CEO is directly appointed by the party leader.
The CEO handles the business side of the Labour Party and forms part of the administration. McKay is also known to have played a key political role in the recent general election, approaching would-be election candidates and helping to formulate the party’s strategy.
