A Paola man was yesterday jailed for two years for stealing four motorcycles, tampering with their serial numbers and the possession of weapons without a licence.
Stephen Urry, 24, was also found guilty of the possession of ammunition without a licence but was acquitted of drug possession.
On handing down judgement, Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera noted that Urry had committed the series of thefts between February 24, 1998, and September 11, 2001. She also noted that he never asked for help to overcome his drug addiction problem.
Consequently, the magistrate ruled that a jail term was appropriate and recommended that the prison authorities help him with his drug problem while serving time.
Police Inspector Jason Agius prosecuted.
