A Syrian man who tried to help his brother escape from Ta’Kandja detention centre has ended up behind bars himself.

Abdul Majid Tlass, 27, had pleaded guilty in court last week to having tried to help his brother Abdul Hamed Tlass, 22 escape by handing him a saw blade hidden in a banana.

Abdul Hamad was this morning given an additional jail term of 18 months while Abdul Majid was jailed for 20 months after also having found to have violated the conditions of a previous sentence.
