To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the death of Jan Palach, the Czech student who set himself on fire in Wenceslas Square, Prague in protest against the Soviet occupation in 1969, the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the University and KSU last Friday placed flowers next to the plaque which commemorates Palach at Students' House on campus.

Present for the event was Czech Ambassador Vladimir Zavazal, Pro-rector Mary-Anne Lauri, KSU president Roberta Avellino, Tonio Casapinta, honorary consul of the Czech Republic to Malta, and Dr V. Nezval, president of the Czech Compatriots Society, together with various Czech nationals resident in Malta.
