A group of 36 Japanese students from the Kindai School were received by Acting President George Hyzler.

The students have been studying English at St Martin's College and discovering Malta for two weeks.

Dr Hyzler encouraged them to keep in contact with their new Maltese friends.

The students, represented by Fuminori Onoe, thanked Dr Hyzler and expressed their joy at being in Malta.

The students were accompanied by Bernie Mizzi, principal of St Martin's College.

The visit was organised by the EC Language School, St Julians.

In 2002, about 957 Japanese students came to Malta to study English, an increase of 53.7 per cent over 1999
