The penultimate race from the Budweiser Championship, organised by MPWA, was held recently at Ghadira Bay. Besides having to work their way around the demanding laps, riders were faced with a strong northerly wind as they strove through the offshore course.
The first out were the 1200cc Stock. Ivan Farrugia and Claudio Ciantar were leading with Sammy Bartolo and Jonathan Bezzina fighting it out right behind. This race had a newcomer, Niki Cassar, while Vince Camilleri started badly and remained behind.
At the last lap Ciantar proved his true worth to pip Farrugia and Bezzina to the post.
Next out were 1200cc Limited. Here, all eyes were on Shaun Risiott, expected to make a repeat of his great performance in the previous race... but his jetski failed him this time. The event was won by Michael Caruana ahead of Chris Attard.
Participants had a good start in the 785cc Limited race, with Steve Grech and Jesmond Schembri ahead. Grech crossed the finishing line first. Schembri was second ahead of Manuel Ciantar. Grech also won the second run.
Second round in the 1200cc Stock class saw the same riders fighting it out again. It was close contest until the very end with Ciantar taking first place.
Risiott made a valiant effort in the second 1200cc Limited run but it was Caruana yet again who was the clear winner.
The last race of the championship, a closed course event, will be held at Ghadira Bay on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. During the weekend of November 30-December 1, MPWA will be holding races in Marsalforn.
