Jewellery items and cash were stolen from a shop in Antoine de Paule Square, Paola, at about 11.15am yesterday.

A salesgirl, 27, was serving two customers when a man wearing a crash helmet walked in, pressed an unidentified object against her side and demanded cash and jewellery, the police said. She immediately opened a showcase, from which the man grabbed jewellery as she handed him money.

The intruder escaped on a motorcycle. Nobody was hurt during the hold-up.
