In May 2004, there were 8,104 registered unemployed with the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC), a decline of 235 over April.

Of these, 6,542 were males and 1,562 were females and 627 of the unemployed were registered in Gozo.

On a year-to-year basis, there was an increase of 783 persons on the unemployment register.

Those persons registering under Part 1 of the unemployment register amounted to 7,454 whereas those registering under Part 2 amounted to 650.
