A 23-year-old female jockey from Pieta was critically injured this afternoon when she fell off her horse at Wied is-Sewda, Qormi, the police said. The incident happened at about 5 p.m.

The woman is in intensive care at Mater Dei Hospital. Magistrate Michael Mallia is holding an inquiry.

The incident is the second of its nature in just over a month. Sarah Borg, 22, was critically injured when she was thrown off her horse on the Marsa racetrack on February 1. Her condition has since improved.
