England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson is still not able to name a date for his return to rugby after being given a final opportunity to press his claims for a place on the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand this year.

"I am not sure yet whether I will be playing for Newcastle Falcons against Northampton on Friday," Wilkinson said in his column published in London's The Times yesterday.

Wilkinson, who has not played a test since kicking the winning drop goal in the 2003 World Cup final, was left out on Monday from the Lions' squad.

However, head coach Clive Woodward said he could still be added to the 44-man squad if he made a successful return to club rugby after his latest knee injury.

"I am happy with my fitness," Wilkinson said. "I am trying to be sensible and make good decisions."
