Alternattiva Demokratika believes judges and magistrates should be appointed on the President’s initiative.
The President, AD said, should submit his nominations for Parliament’s approval.
AD deputy chairman Carmel Cacopardo noted with satisfaction that the Prime Minister now also considered it essential to revise the manner in which members of the judiciary were appointed.
AD said that through its proposal, the influence of political parties in the appointment of the judiciary would be reduced.
Parliament would also assert its role as the highest authority in the land by having the final say on important appointments.
