A company has filed a judicial protest against HSBC, and held the bank responsible for damages after over Lm68,000 disappeared from its accounts.
John F. Ltd filed its protest against HSBC as it was a client of Mid-Med Bank, and claimed its accounts had been tampered with and Lm68,000 vanished from them.
In its protest, the company claimed that in spite of making representations with the bank, the bank was expecting the company to make good for this money.
It also claimed that although internal investigations had shown that the money had been taken by a bank official, the bank did not want to change its position vis-à-vis the company.
John F. Ltd said it wanted to close its accounts with HSBC but was unable to do so before the matter was settled, hence it brought the matter to the court's attention and held the bank responsible for damages.
Dr Keith Bonnici signed the protest.
