Maltese judokas from the Hibernians Budokwai Judo Club recently spent an international training camp in Agros, Cyprus. Steven Caruana, Fernando Mifsud, Joanna Farrugia and Joseph Cassar, under the supervision of Sensei Mario Cardona, took part in the training camp that was held during the last week of June.

A friendly competition was also organised during the training camp which was attended by around 50 judokas from Greece, Bulgaria, Malta and Cyprus, the host country. Cardona and Caruana won a silver medal while Mifsud, Farrugia and Cassar took bronze in their respective categories. For Caruana, Farrugia and Cassar, this was their first international experience in a judo competition.

On the back of their creditable participation, the Maltese judokas have been invited to participate in next year's training camp, to be staged again in Cyprus. The Hibernians Budokwai Club is affiliated with the Malta Judo Federation and forms part of AS Hibernians.
