Dana Ben Moussa, a Junior College student, has won first prize in the French essay competition organised by Alliance Francaise in Paris last April.

Ms Ben Moussa has won an eight-day stay in Paris (including air fare and accommodation) where she will join 80 other young people from all over Europe to see the sights.

Michele Muscat from St Aloysius' College Sixth Form won second prize and Antoinette Caruana of Junior College came third. They will both receive book prizes from the Alliance Francaise de Malte.

Participants had to choose between two topics - European culture and its similarities or differences; or the impact of the development of exchanges through the Internet on the expansion of different European languages.

The papers were marked anonymously by two examiners as a guarantee of impartiality.
