Andy Grech set a new national junior record in the long jump event during yesterday's third meeting of the season at the Marsa Athletic Stadium.

The Pembroke athlete twice managed to jump beyond the previous mark of 6.80 metres set by his team-mate Andrew Cassar Torreggiani during last weekend's meeting.

Grech first leapt 6.83 metres and soon after he managed to go even further when he landed at 6.86 metres. The young long jumper had a third attempt of 6.97 ruled invalid after he nicked the plasticine limit.
