Contracts awarded in state schools for the operation of canteens included provisions against the sale of junk food, Education Minister Louis Galea said yesterday. He said that health inspectors who made surprise inspections of the canteens had a duty to report any violation of the conditions on junk foods to the Department of Education.

Dr Galea told Dr Carmelo Abela (MLP) that there were 31 tuck shops in government secondary schools and junior lyceums.
