Two letters in three days (October 27 and 29). You cannot say Eddy Privitera is not resolute.

In his first missive, he takes Emily Barbaro Sant to task for saying that, in the killing of Daphne Caruana Galizia, “justice has not yet been done”.

While Privitera must be admired – or disdained – for his incessant contributions, one thing is certain: he is ignorant of the legal system. He berated Barbaro Sant, pointing out that three men had been arraigned for the murder. In his opinion, justice had been done.

However, as in many of his ramblings, he forgets that a person is deemed innocent until found guilty and that an arraignment does not mean the men are guilty and case closed. So, no, justice has not yet been done.

And even if the three men are found guilty, justice will not be done until the person or persons who commissioned the murder is/are caught and brought to justice. In his second letter (‘Egrant mastermind’), it appears that, besides the Prime Minister (who now claims he has not read the report), the Attorney General and Owen Bonnici, Privitera has also received the whole report which made him claim that Muscat has been exonerated, thus, following the party line.

As far as anyone knows, what Magistrate Aaron Bugeja wrote and has been revealed is that he found no documentation linking Joseph Muscat with Egrant. Such a statement does not clear the air.

In the first instance, the Prime Minister only ordered the inquiry after the middle-of-the-night flight by the owner of Pilatus Bank carrying the ‘mysterious’ luggage. Now, if only instead of enjoying a fenkata, the Police Commissioner had done his duty, those ‘mysterious’ contents of the luggage could have exonerated Muscat… or otherwise.
