The planning of the Kappara road junction project is still underway, and would be followed by public consultation, Transport Minister Austin Gatt has said in Parliament.

He said the project was brought forward, in order to benefit from EU funds, after the decision to fund the Għadira road project from local sources.

Answering a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Robert Arrigo, Dr Gatt said the project's basic aim was to replace the present roundabout with a number of roads at different levels to improve traffic flow. The grade separated junction near the university was an example of this, he added.

Dr Gatt assured Mr Arrigo that the Mepa process would include full-scale consultation with residents in the area.
