Kavallieri York Cisk 44

Although the score might suggest a clear win, the reality is that a young and upcoming Alligators side showed heart and guts when playing the more experienced Kavallieri.

Kavallieri only managed to open the score thanks to a penalty in the 15th minute through fly-half Roderick Attard. Those points probably gave Kavallieri the right mental attitude to adopt their superior knowledge of the game.

In fact, there was some very good inter-passing and ball retention after Attard's penalty that steadied the team before scoring more points and securing the match.

Tries followed by Sean Doublesin, captain Daniel Grima and Robert Bonavia. At half-time, Kavallieri led 20-0 after Attard had converted Bonavia's try.

The second half opened with Alligators fighting to gain territorial advantage. However, substitute Chris Vassallo made a strong run to score in the fifth minute, converted by Attard.

With the team settling down and recycling some good ball, Pierre Micallef came into the game from full-back to score a try and extend Kavallieri's lead to 34-0 after Attard, again, found the conversion.

Chris Vassallo scored another try thanks to his strong running, followed up by another one from Micallef.

However, Barry von Moll's team found some hidden strength and after a long phase of attack managed an excellent try through American flanker Tim Womack.

Man of the match: Pierre Micallef (Kavallieri).

Referee: Donald Hewer.

Budweiser Qormi 3
Globalair Overseas 54

It took the more quoted Globalair a good 15 minutes to break down a resilient Qormi defence to make a try through Simon Schembri-Warren after having scored a penalty earlier on from the boot of left-wing Paul Sparling.

A stubborn defence kept Qormi in it and Overseas only managed another score from a Sparling penalty in the 22nd minute.

This was followed by Qormi's best patch. They were consistently within a few metres of the line but never managed to finish off the good work they put together.

Then, on the stroke of half-time, a mistake gifted Overseas another try from Andrew O'Reilly.

The second half saw Qormi again doing well in defence. But, then Greg Van Reeven hit a scorching run to score through the middle.

Julian Crawford put Samuel Ramage's team on the scoreboard with a penalty on 50 minutes.

Loose prop head Andrew Galea, who was returning after several weeks through injury, was one of Sharks' best players until he was shown a yellow card.

With a man down, Qormi did not give up but Overseas relied on strength to add another try through scrum half David Judd. That was followed up by a Joss Howland try.

He bullied his way between the posts (35-3) before number 8 Piers Allen scored his own try, converted by flyhalf Justin Barlogio.

Barlogio enjoyed the thrill of his own try shortly after. Allen scored his second personal try to close the match at 54-3.

Man of the match: David Goodwin (Globalair).

Referee: Steven Busuttil.
