The Kayak for Charity team arrived at Marsamxett Boat House last night - 38 hours and 51 minutes after leaving for Pozzallo on board a double kayak - raising €7,163 for Inspire Foundation.
Climbing up the quay ladder after more than 150,000 paddle strokes, Maltese Ian Laferla and Italy-born Andrea Scorcia were torn between the elation of completing the challenge in time and the knowledge that it was over.
The team left Valletta on Saturday at 6am and kayaked all the way to Pozzallo, where they arrived at 10.05pm. After some rest and stretching, Ian and Andrea left Pozzallo in the early hours of Sunday morning and arrived back at Marsamxett at 8.51pm.
Kayak for Charity has been using sports in aid of worthy causes since 2008. This year's challenge, supported by Frank Salt Real Estate, is in aid of Inspire, the Foundation for Inclusion that helps over 1,000 babies, children and adults with learning and physical disabilities reach their fullest potential by providing educational, therapeutic and leisure services.
