Manchester United captain Roy Keane was involved in a heated row with his manager Alex Ferguson during pre-season training, British newspapers reported yesterday.

Keane and Ferguson argued in front of other United players over arrangements at the Premier League club's training camp in Portugal this month, the papers said.

Ferguson left Keane out of the squad which flew to Asia last week for a pre-season tour, saying the Ireland midfielder had a hamstring injury.

Keane, who turns 34 next month, said this year he was planning to retire when his contract expires at the end of next season, though he has since hinted he could change his mind.

He has been at United for 12 years, helping the club win seven Premier League titles and four FA Cups.
