Kerċem celebrates feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour

Parish church, consecrated in 1911, shares its title with St Gregory the Great

Kerċem will mark the feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour on Sunday, with a full programme of religious celebrations and outdoor events. Cardinal Mario Grech will preside over the pontifical mass at 9am. The St Anthony Band of Birkirkara will execute band marches through the main streets of the village at noon.

Solemn evening prayers, led by vice parish priest Franklin Vella, will be sung at 7pm, followed by the procession with the statue of Our Lady of Succour, accompanied by the St Gregory Band of Kerċem under the direction of Mro Mark Gauci. The Leone band will perform a concert in front of the parish church under the baton of Mro Colin Attard at 8.15pm.

The translation of the relic will take place from the Eucharistic chapel to the parish church on Saturday at 6.45pm. It will be led by Mgr Karm Borg. Bishop George Bugeja will lead a concelebrated mass at 7pm.

Saturday night’s programme will feature the eighth edition of Flames Across the Meadows, to be held in Triq il-Kalandrijiet at 10.45pm, followed by a display of ground fireworks at midnight.

The liturgical music during the feast will be directed by maestro di cappella Carmel Grech. The Stella Maris choir and orchestra will be joined by the St Gregory parish choir. The parish children’s choir, under the direction of Emma Micallef, will also take part.

All liturgical celebrations will be livestreamed on the parish’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, Kerċem Parish, and broadcast on Radju Sokkors 95.1FM.
