Kersten Graham has released his debut single, Close to Home.
The musician says that the idea was born after a quarrel with someone special for him. “After thinking about everything, I realised that I did not want to lose that person, no matter what.
“Later on I decided to record a song, together with a music video, as a combined birthday and Christmas present for this person. The message behind the track is very clear - not wanting to lose someone you love dearly.”
Graham wrote the initial riff heard after the first chorus about a year ago. When the track was finished, he planned the video together with Matthew James Borg from Railway Studios and decided to go for a simple concept that captures the singer in a realistic manner.
Although we fight through time, we must always try again
“We also came up with the idea of trying to build a castle with playing cards. Although most of the time I failed, there was the constant message that, although we fight through time, we must always try again in order to get it right.”
Graham says that as a musician he is influenced by classic and hard rock and credits his favourite guitarist, Slash, for the inspiration behind his solo in the track’s video.
“However, I listen to every-thing from jazz to metal. I believe a good artist always has to listen widely in order to improve his style and technique.” Graham plans to work on his debut EP shortly.
