Maltese singer Kevin Borg says he is still “a normal person,” eight months on from winning Sweden’s Pop Idol and securing a recording contract with Sony BMG.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the 23-year-old singer, back in his homeland for two concerts, says he adapted quickly to his sudden fame:
“It’s something I got used to without really knowing. I went to Sweden not knowing I was going to sing. I went to Sweden for my girlfriend and I think I was there at the right time and the right place and what happened, happened, and I’m really happy.”
Reflecting on his life since he won the televised competition, Mr Borg says that his dream has lived up to expectations and talks about the “energetic” recording process for his debut album, his decision to take the lead role in an impending version of High School Musical, writing his own songs and performing for the Queen of Sweden.
He also says he has some things in the pipeline that he can’t really talk about “because a lot people might be angry with me”, and he is coy about whether he will compete in Eurovision again for either Sweden or Malta.
