Kinnie League
Luxol vs Hamrun clash marks end of first round
The first round of the Kinnie League will be completed over the next two days with a three-match programme between tomorrow and Monday.
The main clash is scheduled for Monday as BUPA Luxol cross swords with Hamrun Go Mobile. It will be preceded by Pembroke-Depiro but action from the men's league starts tomorrow when Siggiewi meet Footwork.
Luxol and Hamrun will be after a win to stay within sight of the top spot. Luxol have had an indifferent start to the season, losing their opening two matches, but now they look to be on the road of recovery. The return of pivot Silvio Cassar and Robert Azzopardi was a massive boost for the team.
Hamrun, knocked out of the Louis Borg Cup in midweek by Pembroke, will pin their hopes on their key players as they look to bounce back to winning ways.
Footwork are on a positive patch. Last Sunday, they claimed their first league win of the season over Depiro (58-53). They followed that up with an 157-153 aggregate victory over the same Rabat side to move into the semi-finals of the Louis Borg Cup. Another victory tomorrow would surely bolster Footwork's chances of making the play-offs.
Siggiewi are still looking for their first league win. There has been no sign of some consistency in their play so far, particularly in crucial moments during a match. A quick replacement for Marco Pisani would help Siggiewi in no small way.
Pembroke are favourites to maintain their unbeaten run when they play against Depiro. The latter produced some encouraging showings but go into Monday's match on the back of three consecutive defeats. League leaders Pembroke are a tough proposition for Depiro who are preparing themselves for the arduous task of breaking the most solid defence in the division.
