KM Malta Airlines announces new destination for summer schedule

This summer will also see extra flights to Brussels and London Gatwick

KM Malta Airlines has announced the opening of a new direct connection between Malta and the Israeli city of Tel Aviv as it unveils its summer schedule.

In a statement on Tuesday, the airline said the new Tel Aviv service would operate twice-weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays, from May 27.

Malta's national carrier will also offer an additional Tuesday morning flight to Brussels and an extra service to London Gatwick on Thursday afternoons, bringing the total number of weekly flights to the UK capital to 23.

A service between Malta and Catania will open again from the start of the summer, the airline said.

KM said this year’s summer schedule is its busiest yet, averaging 262 flights per week and a total of 7,948 over the season, which runs from March 29 until the end of October.

The airline said the schedule had been designed “to meet strong demand across all markets while supporting Malta’s position as a leading Mediterranean destination”.

This summer will see the airline carry 1.34 million seats over its 19 routes across Europe and the Mediterranean.

Tel Aviv Airport, known locally as Ben Gurion International Airport, is the main hub for almost all international flights arriving to or departing from Israel.

KM Malta Airlines executive chairman David Curmi said the schedule “represents a significant step forward in strengthening Malta’s air connectivity”.

“We are not only expanding capacity but also strategically investing in markets that are most important to Malta’s tourism, business, and diaspora communities”, he said.

“By combining direct point-to-point services with access to the major passenger hubs across Europe, we provide an important number of connecting seats.”
