On Saturday, Krishna Pen & Paper closed the gap on leaders Marsa by beating Melita comfortably in the Globalair Winter League.

Winning the toss, Krishna CC elected to bat first. Nowell Khosla and Mark G. Sacco opened the batting and again proved that they are the best opening pair in the competition. Both retired after facing 30 balls, thus putting their team in a strong position.

Khosla, the more aggressive of the two, scored 45 runs including five fours while Sacco scored 26 runs. Sam Dhandapani, finding some of his good form, also retired scoring 34 runs including four fours.

Chris Naudi made 14 runs from 10 balls before becoming the first wicket taken and Faraaz became the second scoring three runs. Both wickets fell to Tony Slater who was the main wicket taker for Melita.

Kevin Krishna was the third wicket to fall on the last ball of the innings, being stumped for eight runs off the bowling of William Nicholls. Inconsistent bowling saw the Melita team give away 34 extras. The Krishna team totaled 171 runs from their allotted overs.

The Melita run chase was dented by the run-out of Joy Ghoseroy in the fourth over. He had only scored six runs. His opening partner Sagar Krishna retired and was later to return and remained unbeaten on 39 runs including five fours.

R. George scored 19 runs from 27 balls. The innings of the day came from Nadem Ashraf who notched up the first 50 of the tournament, scoring 52 runs not out from 27 balls, including four sixes and two fours.

The gallant effort was not enough as the Melita side could only make 128 runs from their allotted overs. For Krishna, Khosla was the main wicket taker claiming two wickets.

Krishna earned nine points from the win which takes their total to 30, two points behind leaders Marsa. Melita gained one point.

Next Saturday the Marsa side have their final game against Melita at 1 p.m. The nursery/academy will be from 9.30 till 11.30 a.m.
