The Education Commission of the University Students' Council (KSU) has launched its second Reach-Out Campaign, aimed at instilling a sense of social commitment among university students. The launch follows the success of the campaign last year.

For a few hours a week, students are offered the chance to help institutions like the Foundation for Educational Services and social work agency Appogg in teaching young children skills such as reading and writing or in spending time with families who require help at home.

One of the campaign's programmes concerns Klabb Hilti, an after-school club offered by the foundation aimed at holistic educational development. Activities include art and crafts, drama and sports, helping children learn to read and write, and lending them a hand with their homework.

The other programme involved in the Reach-Out Campaign is Programm Ulied Darna, a service organised by Appogg in which volunteers offer time, friendship and practical help to facilitate the life of Maltese families undergoing difficulties at home. In this way, volunteers ensure that children are supported and well cared for.

All those interested in participating in either of these programmes will be given training by qualified staff at Appogg or the foundation, and will be supervised throughout the programme.

Students may also benefit from the campaign by having it qualify as an extracurricular credit.

For further information, contact Ilaria or Matthew at KSU on 21 34 30 85 or on education@ksu.org.mt by not later than October 12.
