The Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) is one of the first student councils in Europe to launch an SMS service for students, who can sign up for useful KSU, university and faculty messages sent to their mobile phone.

Notifications could be about lecture changes, student organisations' announcements, payment alerts, deadline reminders, job opportunities, travel offers and much more.

Subscribers can customise their Campus SMS content, select their privacy time and set message limits. The KSU can guarantee a no-spam policy and will deliver content according to specified criteria and preferences.

The council is recommending that all students make the most of this unique opportunity, which it says would allow students to save time, save money and keep up to date with the "best of student life".

Students can sign up for a nominal fee of Lm1 a month and if they sign up for 10 months in advance they get a full month free. Campus SMS is powered by KSU and Socratxt.

In another technological venture, KSU has teamed up with Go Mobile to launch a wireless LAN system, which will allow students to connect to the internet inside Students House and its surroundings.

HSBC Bank Malta is KSU's main sponsor.
