L‑Istrina Palace Run set for June 14

Community Chest Fund needs continuous financial support to meet growing demand - President

The second edition of the 10km L‑Istrina Palace Run, in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, will take place on June 14.

This year’s route will take participants on a 10‑kilometre run from San Anton Palace to the President’s Palace in Valletta.

Details of the event were announced during a press conference held by President Myriam Spiteri Debono.

She explained that the fund receives requests for assistance throughout the year, reflecting a growing and evolving range of medical conditions and social needs. As a result, the fund requires continuous financial support.

Major Richard Vassallo, who conceived the initiative, said the idea originated from athletes’ desire to have another event—besides the President’s Walk—in which they could participate while contributing to a charitable cause. He noted that, following the success of the first edition, the run has now been included in Malta’s athletics calendar.

Joe Micallef, chief organiser of the Malta Marathon, who is coordinating this year’s edition, highlighted the encouraging level of registrations, building on last year’s event, which attracted nearly 800 participants.

He emphasised that the run is not limited to professional athletes, encouraging amateur runners and enthusiasts to take part.

The event is being supported by several Maltese disciplined forces entities, including the Police Force, the Armed Forces of Malta, LESA and Transport Malta, as well as commercial partners such as Eurosport, the Social Causes Fund, Fort Fitness, The Farsons Foundation, MCP Car Park and Star Fruit Limited.
