La Scala Theatre in Milan has donated four posters of unique historical value to the Sliema Philharmonic Society, which will use them to embellish the premises.

Two large original posters are related to the 1946 re-opening of La Scala after World War II with a concert conducted by Mro Arturo Toscanini, and to the 1982 performance of Verdi's Ernani conducted by Riccardo Muti. Two smaller posters are also of exceptional value: the 1942 Pro Lana Concert conducted by Victor De Sabata with the distinctive colours of the Italian flag in a reflection of the fascist era; and the 1958 performance of Walkiria conducted by Herbert Von Karajan.

The Sliema Band musicians and officials visited the La Scala Theatre in Milan last August during their successful tour of Italy and Switzerland where they held two concerts in Como and Lugano.
