Labour criticises Alex Borg over unpublished leadership campaign finances
Borg's PN leadership campaign finances remain unpublished despite promising a one month deadline
Alex Borg failed to publish his leadership campaign finances by the deadline he had set for himself, the Labour Party said on Tuesday.
Last month, during an interview with Newsbook editor Matthew Xuereb, the 30-year-old leader was asked about his leadership campaign expenditure. At the time, Borg said he could not specify how much was spent, but promised the details would be published within a month.
Last weekend, during an interview on Andrew Azzopardi's Campus FM programme, PN CEO Sabine Agius Cabourdin said the leadership campaign expenditure was a 'work in progress'.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Labour Party said Borg's leadership campaign should be published as soon as possible, noting that with every passing minute, Borg is 'breaking his word to the people'."
"Despite promising that within a month he would publish the finances related to his PN leadership campaign, now more than a month later, Alex Borg has left the people waiting," the statement read.
PL said the Nationalist Party has a track record of unfulfilled promises, especially when it comes to finances.
"Now it is clear that, under Borg’s leadership, everything will remain as is."
The Labour Party called for the immediate publication of the leadership campaign expenses, and the attitude of a lack of transparency and accountability shows that Borg and the PN cannot be relied upon.
