A new Labour government would strengthen relations with Libya for the benefit of Maltese businesses, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this afternoon.
Speaking during a meeting with the Maltese-Libyan Chamber of Commerce, Dr Muscat said Labour would appoint a minister for European Affairs. This appointment would allow the Foreign Affairs Minister to focus on relations with other countries, with an emphasis on Mediterranean states, including Libya.
He stressed the importance of having strong relations with Libya saying these had an important economic and strategic value.
Dr Muscat said that Maltese wanting to start a business in Libya were having visa problems and said that methods to reduce bureaucracy while observing Schengen rules had to be found
MPs George Vella and Karmenu Vella were present for the meeting.
