The Labour Party (PL) spokesman for resources and transport, Joe Mizzi yesterday filed a judicial protest complaining that the director of consumer affairs had still not looked into the legal notices implementing the utility tariffs.
Mr Mizzi, a member of Parliament, wrote to the director on January 19 arguing that the legal notices implementing the utility tariffs violated the Constitution, other laws and the treaty of the European Union.
In his protest, which he also addressed to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, he said that although he asked the director of consumer affairs to probe the legal notices he had not heard anything from him yet.
He asked the director to take intermediary measures regarding the tariffs as there existed a serious prejudicial situation vis-a-vis the economy.
Mr Mizzi said that Enemalta Corporation broke the Consumer Affairs Act and asked the director to act immediately and stop the corporation from doing so.
