Labour education spokesman Carmelo Abela has called on the government to help solve the problem of school transport safety.

Mr Abela said that following an appeal launched a few days ago, the situation at a particular school had returned to normal. "In other schools, however, children's supervision when it comes to transport is still lacking," he said.

He said that despite the Education Ministry and the Malta Union of Teachers having issued a joint statement on the need for a precise procedure on children's supervision before and after school, nothing seemed to have been done to seriously tackle the situation.
