Construction work on the second floor of the law courts yesterday was conducted with little regard for the health of staff and visitors.
People carrying out business on the second floor had to walk through a cloud of fine, white dust that spread over most of the floor.
The works carried out in the chamber involved the use of a chaser and included the narrowing of a door and the widening of an internal window. But although all the windows on the floor were open, no precautions were taken to stop the dust from dispersing beyond the area immediately surrounding the chamber.
By 11 a.m. a team of cleaners, armed with buckets and cloths, started wiping away the layers of fine dust that had settled on the benches and floor, although the works were still going on.
