Striker Henrik Larsson has agreed to continue playing for Swedish first division club Helsingborg during 2009, the club said yesterday.

"A few details remain in the writing of the contract, but it should be ready in a couple of weeks," a statement on the club's website said.

Larsson, who played for Feyenoord, Celtic and Barcelona before returning to his home club in 2006, won his 102nd Sweden cap in November in a 3-1 friendly loss to the Netherlands.

The Swede, who turns 38 this year, had a brief but successful spell on loan with English champions Manchester United in 2007, having joined Helsingborg after the 2006 World Cup.

The Swedish League begins on April 4.
