Last-gasp win for Kavallieri

Kavallieri Blue Label tightened their grip on the championship in their bid to repeat last year's feat when they achieved the double.
Last week, a last-gasp effort turned the tables on a stiff Stompers O'Casey's challenge, in horrid weather conditions. The young, feisty Stompers scored a try to make it 23-19 in the last few minutes to keep their title hopes alive.
Their celebrations were a trifle too early, however. Kavallieri were down but not beaten yet as their never-say-die attitude helped them exploit Stompers' premature elation to score a late winner - 24-23.
Stompers are still within mathematical reach of equalling Kavallieri's tally. They have to win all their matches though. Kavallieri only have to win one of the next two games, against Barracudas and Alligators, to seal the title.
In the other match, played under a deluge, Alligators Cisk Export made new coach Jeff Dixon proud with a good 10-0 victory over Hopleaf Barracudas.
The championship this season has been marked by many postponements due to bad weather.
Standings: Kavallieri 12; Stompers 6; Alligators 4; Barracudas 2.
Barclays Cup final
The dramatic league match between Kavallieri and Stompers is a foretaste of what to expect tomorrow when both clubs clash in a twice-postponed cup final.
Barracudas-Alligators will raise the curtains with the play-off for 'wooden spoonists'.
