On December 6, I posted a parcel (destination Australia) at Valletta's post office and when asked what service I wanted to choose I enquired about the difference in price. I was told air mail would cost me Lm14.42 and was assured that the parcel would reach its destination by Christmas. The surface air lifted type of postage would, on the other hand, cost Lm6 but delivery by Christmas could not be guaranteed. With the parcel being a Christmas gift, of course I opted for air mail and paid Lm14.42.
A day later, I checked about my parcel and was told that it still had not reached the Qormi despatch section. The parcel went missing for a whole week and on December 12 it was found at Qormi.
I got to know that parcels are usually given a pink label, but since mine did not have it, it was misplaced. On December 14, I received a call from a Mr Armeni, manager at the parcel office, who assured me that the parcel would leave the offices on the day.
While I don't blame Mr Armeni for the delay, since it wasn't him or his office that made the mistake, and do thank Pierre Tonna, from DMS, and Joe Farrugia for going out of their way to locate my parcel, I do expect Maltapost to shoulder responsibility.
I am utterly disgusted and disappointed by the fact that I paid Lm14.42 to ensure that my parcel is delivered by Christmas but it is now very doubtful that this would be the case. As such, I expect Maltapost to at least pay me the difference had I opted to send the parcel via surface air lifted service.
