Maltese violinist Carmine Lauri, accompanied by pianist Simon Hester, will be giving a recital in St George's Basilica's concert hall in Victoria on November 5 as part of this year's Gozo festival Mediterranea.

A limited number of tickets for the recital are available as from today from the Astra Theatre, in Gozo - tel. 2155 0985.

The recital is the highlight of Mediterranea's programme, which includes Giuseppe Verdi's opera Otello and a grand gala concert of operatic arias. The programme also includes a Maltese baroque music concert, Etnika, a lecture by David Trump at Ggantija Temples, a feast of Maltese food and wine and various tours around Gozo.

Mr Lauri's recital will include music by Beethoven, Schubert, Grieg and Gershwin.

Born in 1971 Mr Lauri has achieved international recognition, winning various overseas prizes. He has three CD recordings to his credit and currently plays a violin made by Gregorio Antoniazzi dating from 1768.
