Thanks to the initiative of the Malta Olympic Committee, the Malta Lawn Bowls Association was recently established on our shores.

This traditional sport is very popular in the UK as well as in several Commonwealth countries.

In England, some bowls greens date hundreds of years back. The oldest still played on is in Southampton where records show that the green has been in operation for more than 700 years. Lawn bowls is played in the Commonwealth Games.

In Malta, the sport is practised at a Mellieha hotel, mainly by tourists.

The association intends to promote the sport and will organise national competitions both for men and women in the near future.

Overseas contacts have already been established and the current committee has already obtained international recognition as a member of the International Federation of World Bowls.

Further information about the Malta Lawn Bowls Association may be obtained by contacting the secretary general Marie Therese Zammit (lawnbowlsmalta@gmail.com) at 5, Pjazza Toni Bajjada, Naxxar.
