Lazzaro Pisani’s Nadur basilica ceiling painting restored
Public lecture on Saturday at parish centre to focus on artist’s legacy and works
The Bestowal of the Mission upon Saints Peter and Paul, the monumental ceiling painting by Lazzaro Pisani in the choir nave of Nadur basilica, has been restored. To mark this important achievement, Canon Charles Vella will give a public lecture at the parish centre hall on Saturday at 11am. The lecture will focus on the artistic legacy of Pisani within the basilica, highlighting the historical and artistic significance of the works entrusted to the renowned Maltese painter.
Canon Vella will offer an overview of the restoration process undertaken, providing insights into the conservation techniques employed and the challenges encountered throughout the project. He will also refer to other restoration interventions carried out within the basilica.
The restoration of the decorative elements surrounding the painting, including the plaster ornamentation, gold gilding and tonal shading, was expertly executed by Mark Falzon, whose work has contributed significantly to the overall enhancement of this important artistic and ecclesiastical heritage.
