An Australian expert on attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder teaching methods, Prof. Loretta Giorcelli, will be giving a series of talks in Malta to professionals and parents, on the initiative of the AD/HD Family Support Group.
Two of these talks are open to the public and take place on October 26 at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The former is primarily for people involved in the teaching professions and will be held in the New Gateway Building, University of Malta, while the latter is primarily for parents and is to be held at the Gian Frangisk Abela Sixth Form, Msida.
The AD/HD Family Support Group which invited Prof. Giorcelli with the support of the Ministry of Education and Faculty of Education, aims to increase the understanding and help available to AD/HD people and their families.
It has been working for six years and although great strides have been made it is anticipated that these talks will go a long way to helping the situation in schools.
The behaviour of children in schools is a subject of ever increasing worry and importance and identifying whether it is due to a learning disability such as AD/HD, trauma induced, or something else is essential in ensuring that classroom life is as enjoyable as possible for all concerned.
Booking is essential and refreshments will be served. Further information may be obtained from Tessa Anastasi, tel. 21 372542 and 21 384949 or 9896 8840, email at nastas@waldonet.net.mt
