Following a visit in 2002 to Lund University by Dr H.C.R. Vella of the Department of Classics and Archaeology, Jerker Blomqvist, Professor of Greek Language and Literature at Lund University, will be visiting the University from October 12 to 19 and will give the following lectures:

1. Before Homer: The Proto-Indoeuropean origin of Greek. The reconstruction of proto-Greek. Mycenean Greek; 2. Homer: The mixture of dialects in Homer. Archaic features and innovations; 3. The classical period: The Greek language area. Local dialects and literary languages; 4. Attic: The features of the dialect. The establishment of Attic as a normative variety of Greek; 5-6. Post-classical Greek: The expansion of Greek language and civilisation. Change and Continuity. The language of the New Testament. Atticism; 7. The Greek language from antiquity to the present day; 8. The Museum of Classical Antiquities in Lund.
