The Malta Transport Authority is to take legal action against the contractor assigned to lay asphalt at Ix-Xatt Street, Gzira, for failing to abide by specific instructions.

The authority has chided Asphaltar Limited for failing to erect appropriate traffic signs to divert traffic and to put in place traffic restrictions in Testaferrata Street.

The authority had also instructed the contractor to carry out the works between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. so as to minimise inconvenience to the public.

Authority personnel inspected the site yesterday and identified permit conditions being breached by the contractor, who was instructed to come in line immediately.

The authority apologised for any inconvenience caused and urged all road contractors to abide by its instructions for the safety and convenience of road users.
