Article 4 sub-section 2 of the Referenda Act (Chapter 237 of the Laws of Malta) clearly states that: "That question or questions to be put to those entitled to vote shall be so framed that they can be answered with either yes or no". Therefore, if the referendum question had to be a choice between membership and partnership (assuming that the partnership which the MLP would like does exist) it would clearly be in breach of law. Despite all this, Alfred Sant and his fellow friends still insist the choice is not between joining or not but between membership and partnership."
All this fuss about the referendum question simply goes to proof once more Labour's mania in picturing itself as a victim. In reality, the MLP should be happy that the referendum question has been worded as it has been because, as things stand, people who want neither membership nor partnership would vote no in the coming referendum whereas if they were offered a choice they would probably abstain.
Also, the fact that the referendum question clearly refers to the enlargement process in 2004 means that those citizens which favour membership but at a later stage (even though the possibility and feasibility of such a situation is questionable) would vote no in the coming referendum whereas they would probably vote yes if the choice would be between membership and partnership.
So, please dear MLP stop crying and once you are at it... if you can give us some fact about "partnership" it would be greatly appreciated!
