Lenten pilgrimages to Għammar Hill and to Senglea basilica

Way of the Cross to Għammar Hill being held on Sundays

The national shrine of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu is holding several Lenten pilgrimages. The Way of the Cross is being held to Għammar Hill on Sundays.

On Sunday and on March 15 pilgrims will depart from Ta’ Pinu to Għammar Hill at 3.30pm. On Sunday, March 22, the Gozo diocese Way of the Cross will begin at 4.30pm.

Meanwhile, another pilgrimage will take place to Christ the Redeemer at Senglea basilica on Friday, March 13. At Senglea, Ta’ Pinu rector, Mgr Carmelo Refalo, will celebrate Mass with healing prayers at 10am.

Mgr Refalo reminds us that God has a way of choosing remote places in which to manifest Himself. “We are here in a deserted place” (Luke 9:12). God is able to transform deserted places and wastelands into pools of water, and dry land into springs (Psalm 107:35), Mgr Refalo quotes. Mgr Refalo says that Karmni Grima and Franġisk Portelli were themselves pilgrims to Ta’ Pinu. “Today, we too are called, in this holy season of Lent, to undertake our Easter pilgrimage – passing from the death of sin to the true life of grace,” he says.
