I would like to congratulate the Leone Band for once again giving a performance of high calibre. This year's edition of the Leone Goes Pop held at the main square in Victoria on Sunday, June 6, was more of a coordinated performance and the audience was more than once invited to join in and be involved rather than just sit down and listen to the music. Such an effort by the organisers was worth it in what turned out to be a dynamic event.

The main role of course was left to the Leone Band that presented an exquisite rendition of some of the most well-known songs ever including medleys from Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, the Beatles and Elton John, Eros Ramazotti and the Village People, from Country and Western to Rock and Roll.

The repertoire was carefully selected and with conductor Colin Attard at the helm, the effect was stunning.

Held in the midst of a long weekend, this event proved to be a suitable attraction for Maltese and tourists who happened to be on the island.

In this regard the Victoria local council should also be praised for its collaboration and giving its helping hand to support such initiatives.

A repeat performance was announced to be held on Tuesday, July 27 in Marsalforn Bay. This time it is not only going to be a cultural event. Proceeds will be in aid of Puttinu Cares.

This is another positive initiative by the Leone Band, sticking not only to its traditional cultural contribution it gave with so much dedication for the past century and a half but also making a noble effort to help those in need.
