Less custom in port

I refer to the short report (August 20) on visiting cruise liners. Their number visiting Malta has dropped drastically since May 1. It would be very interesting to know from Viset the number of ships that called in our port for the period May 1, 2003...

I refer to the short report (August 20) on visiting cruise liners. Their number visiting Malta has dropped drastically since May 1. It would be very interesting to know from Viset the number of ships that called in our port for the period May 1, 2003 to August 20, 2003 and May 1, to August 20, this year.

Ships like Splendour of the Seas, Aida Cara, Ocean Village, Oceanic, R Six, Le Ponant, Silverdream and many others can be remembered only from pictures now. Gone are the days when at one time we used to have up to seven ships on a single day.

Gone are the days when disputes used to crop up when navy ships occupied prominent berths or when a shuttle service to the city could not be provided. Now we have lot of days when not a single ship is in our harbour.
